It's in the Details...

So much of what we do with our films hinges on the visual aspects of telling a story, a fact I was reminded of as I walked along the waterfront at lunch today. We've been lucky so far, as each of the scenes I had imagined in my head has made a successful transition to the screen. Here are a few unrelated-to-writing shots I took a few moments ago. And one from the ice storm we had last week... Just for good measure.

Remember to keep your eyes peeled for the sights, sounds, and locations that you might be able to use or replicate in your production.

A Thousand Words... + One Parody

I am lagging way behind with my blogging, so for the sake of getting something up here for your enjoyment, I thought I would share a few images of Spring in all its pending glory. The irony I suppose, is that while we had temperatures in the 30 degree range on the weekend, I woke up today to an ice covered car again... Enjoy the shots and make sure you scroll all the way down to the bottom for a special (and somewhat unbelievable) treat.

And as promised - a little bonus treat! There is something odd about the porn industry's attempts to mimic mainstream films by subverting their names and content. Presumably, it's an attempt to reach out to a broader audience who would otherwise not be interested in the movies, and there is something oddly entertaining to be found in names like Edward Penishands, Cliffbanger, Saving Ryan's Privates, or even The XXX-Files. The thing is, in my somewhat limited experience, the movies never live up to the names, rarely having anything to do with the source material beyond the skewed title. At least until now. Fans of the Coen Brothers classic The Big Lebowski should be just as bewildered as I was by how similar the version posted at CHUD.com is to the original movie. Especially Peter O'Tool's portrayal of John Goodman's Walter Sobchak. The link comes from CHUD via Cinematical and apparently TMZ before that. Enjoy! Mildly NSFW but it really is too surreal to miss...

Writing Time...

So, a lovely weekend lined up with temperatures climbing into the mid twenties at least. This is a good thing. Also good? A four day weekend. Combine the two and I should be able to get a decent amount of writing done, most likely trying to get I Land cleaned up. This is of course, if I can tear myself away from the sunshine to spend my weekend staring at my flickering old VGA monitor. Should be a chore to say the least. Still, I need to get some of these loose ends tidied up and I need to do it sooner rather than later.

Mission: Accepted.

I would also like to tidy up a few lingering scripts now that the shooting weather has returned. And I need to read sixteen submission for the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education competition that I am judging. From what I have been told, there is some pretty stiff competition this year. I'm looking forward to offering my insight, but mostly to getting some writing done over the next four days. Maybe I'll even manage to squeeze in another blog. These week long absences are not good enough.

Wish me luck!
